I know my system can handle Forge and Optifine. minecraft/mods folder and MC crashes on me. Then I add OptiFine_1.8.8_HD_U_G9.jar in the. I added forge for 1.8.8 and started that up to a saved vanilla game. minecraft folder in %AppData% I downloaded 1.8.8 and started that up. This is extremely frustrating as I think of myself as an above average computer user.
